The SaunaBox Go is a two-person portable steam sauna that’s affordable, easy to set up, and surprisingly effective. In this review, I break down the setup, build quality, features, and my personal experience to help you decide if it’s the right at-home sauna for you.
The SaunaBox or ‘the world's most accessible at-home sauna’ as it claims, is a portable sauna designed to bring the luxury of a traditional steam room experience into the comfort of your home. The sauna consists of a collapsible tent made from antimicrobial fabric, a steam generator, and easy-to-assemble accessories and offers a convenient and affordable solution for enjoying sauna sessions anytime, anywhere.
The SaunaBox Go (SmartSteam XL) is the latest portable sauna from the team. Unlike the first version, which was built primarily for single-person use, this one is big enough to comfortably fit two people.
Steam saunas offer a range of benefits for both physical and mental well-being:
This is hands down the easiest sauna I’ve ever set up. With the new pop-up frame, you literally unfold it, snap a few pieces together, and it’s ready to go. Compared to the original SaunaBox, which was already simple, this is next-level.
If you’ve ever built furniture from IKEA or Amazon, this will feel like a walk in the park.
The original Sauna Box impressed me with its high-quality, antimicrobial, polyester tent fabric. The new fabric is thicker, sturdier, and holds heat way better than the first model. It’s also OEKO-TEX certified, meaning it’s been independently tested to be free from harmful substances such as microplastics.
Other upgrades include:
It feels more premium, cozier, and way more durable overall. Thw overall construction ia very sturdy once set up and provides a comfortable and safe sauna experience.
Using the SaunaBox Go is a very straightforward process. Simply fill the steam generator outside the tent with distilled water (distilled prevents the growth of bacteria), twist and lock the lid of the steamer, set the timer and steam level, and wait for 20-25 minutes for it to heat up.
Once ready, step in, relax, and enjoy the steam room. One thing to keep in mind is that you will have to refill the water tank every few sessions but besides this, it’s an effortless process. There’s even a new app feature that lets you control the steamer remotely, meaning you can preheat it from another room.
The steam room itself is quiet, dark, and perfect for meditation or quiet contemplation while the intense heat induces a real sweat, and provides an overall rejuvenating experience. Inside, it’s surprisingly spacious and cozy. I had a friend in there with me and we both fit comfortably.
Coming in at $599, the Sauna Box Go offers exceptional value for money and is an absolute steal for those wanting a larger at-home steam room while on a budget. Unlike a top-of-the-line steam room, it can be easily taken down and moved around the house, can fit two people and has upgraded features and smart controls from the original saunabox. It also comes with a 2-year warranty, giving peace of mind that you’re covered for defects or malfunctions.
Who it’s for:
✅ Anyone who wants a simple at-home heat therapy solution without breaking the bank.
✅ Apartment dwellers or renters who can’t install a permanent sauna.
✅ Those who prefer steam over infrared or dry sauna.
✅ Beginners testing if sauna sessions will become part of their lifestyle.
Who it’s not for:
❌ People who need the ultra-high 200°F dry sauna experience
❌ Anyone who wants a sauna for large groups (this fits 2 comfortably, maybe 3 at most)
❌ Those looking for a luxury spa aesthetic — this is functional, not fancy
❌ People who want zero maintenance (you do need to wipe it down after each session)
Here’s the bottom line: the SaunaBox Go isn’t trying to be a $5,000 luxury spa install. It’s designed to be affordable, effective, and portable, and it nails all three.
With the new upgrades (better fabric, stronger build, smart controls, and way easier setup), it’s a massive step up from the original SaunaBox. At this price point, it’s hard to beat.
For anyone sauna-curious, short on space, or just looking for a practical way to bring heat therapy into their routine, this gets the Wellness Daddy stamp of approval. ✅

Yes, The Sauna Box was designed for two-people.
After use it is recommended to leave the door flap open to air it out and then wipe down the water vapor on the inside of the walls with a towel. The inside of the heat-insulated cover is designed to help prevent mold and bacteria build-up and doesn't need thorough cleaning while the sweat mat at the bottom of the sauna is machine washable.
Yes, the SaunaBox is designed for easy disassembly and relocation, allowing you to enjoy sauna sessions wherever you go. Its fiberglass poles and light nature allow for a relatively easy pickup of the entire sauna so that it can be relocated easily within the house.
The SaunaBox can be used both indoors and outdoors. If you plan to leave it outdoors, it is recommended to have an appropriate cover such as a canopy, balcony, or tent as the SaunaBox is not weatherproof and will be damaged if left outside unprotected from the elements.
Yes, the SaunaBox is designed to reach temperatures as high as 130°F, providing an effective sauna experience with controllable heat levels.

The SaunaBox runs off a standard 110v power source, typically found in US outlets.
